TRACK GALLOP VIDEOS: Chautauqua & Buff in great shape

Chautauqua and Buffering, Australia’s representatives for the Chairman’s Sprint Prize in Hong Kong, continue to thrive ahead of the race.

Chautauqua has allayed any fears his trainers might have had over his ability to cope with his first overseas trip.

Michael Hawkes is in charge of the champion sprinter in Hong Kong while his father John and brother Wayne look after the stables at home in Australia.

Chautauqua is the world’s highest-ranked sprinter after his second TJ Smith Stakes win earlier this month.

He arrived in Hong Kong last week to prepare for the Chairman’s Sprint Prize on Sunday and Hawkes said he had settled in well.

“It’s great to see him so relaxed,” Hawkes said.

“He does have a mind of his own and he likes to be left alone.

“He’s that sort of horse and he can be a bit on edge at times but here he’s really settled.

“The biggest thing is the climate but it was cooler the first couple of days after he arrived and I think that helped.

“Having the extra week here has been beneficial.”

Chautauqua had a light canter on the all weather track on Monday ahead of a gallop a day later.

Among his opponents on Sunday is Buffering who is now an old hand at the travel caper.

The veteran sprinter has made many trips from his Brisbane home to Melbourne and Perth and more recently travelled to Dubai where he won the Al Quoz Sprint in March.

His trainer Robert Heathcote said he had maintained his fitness and everything had gone smoothly.

“He’s feeling good,” Heathcote said.

“He pranced on to the track this morning so you know he’s full of himself.

“We’ve just got to keep him ticking over.”
