Queensland Oaks 2015: Winx ready to break Group 1 duck, says trainer Chris Waller
PUNTERS are convinced that exciting filly Winx can turn potential into Group 1 glory in Saturday’s Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Doomben.
The Chris Waller-trained daughter of Street Cry, already a commanding $2.50 favourite, came from 17th at the 400m mark to demolish rivals by almost two lengths in the Group 3 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) at her last start.
Winx has been knocking on the door of success at the elite level and punters agree with Waller that this is her race.
At her previous outing she started the $2.80 favourite but was beaten into second by two-and-a-half-lengths by Gust Of Wind in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 11. The upside is that there will be no query that she will run out the distance of Saturday’s feature.
She also was runner-up to First Seal in the Flight Stakes (1600m) last spring, while her third attempt to win an elusive Group 1 resulted in a close-up fifth in the Vinery Stud Stakes three starts ago.
