Manny Pacquiao has competed in professional boxing since 1995. He is the only eight-division world champion in the history of boxing, having won twelve major world titles, as well as being the first boxer to win the lineal championship in five different weight divisions. Pacquiao is also the first boxer in history to win major world titles in four of the original eight weight divisions of boxing, also known as the “glamour divisions”: flyweight, featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight. He has held the WBA (Regular) welterweight title since 2018.
He was named Fighter of the Decade for the 2000s by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA), WBC, and WBO. He is also a three-time Ring magazine and BWAA Fighter of the Year, winning both awards in 2006, 2008, and 2009; and the Best Fighter ESPY Award in 2009 and 2011. In 2016, Pacquiao was ranked first on ESPN‘s list of top boxers, pound for pound, of the past 25 years. BoxRec ranks him as the greatest Asian fighter of all time.
Pacquiao was long rated as the best active boxer in the world, pound for pound, by most sporting news and boxing websites, including ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Sporting Life, Yahoo! Sports, About.com, BoxRec, and The Ring, beginning from his climb to lightweight until his losses at welterweight in 2012. He is also the longest-reigning top-ten active boxer on The Ring’s pound for pound list.
Pacquiao vs Thurman Betting
It has all been way traffic since the fight was announced and currently, 73% of the money we have taken on the fight has been on Manny Pacquiao.
The undefeated American is $2.24 to upset Pacquiao but he is friendless in betting.
Pacquiao vs Thurman Recent Form
Manny Pacquiao has won seven of his past nine fights and is arguably fighting better than he ever has.
His loss to Floyd Mayweather was full of merit and many argue the outcome of his only trip down under when he took on Jeff Horn.
It is very evident that he lacks the knock out power that he possessed early in his career. He has needed the judge’s decision in 13 of his last 15 fights.
Keith Thurman is undefeated in his professional career. He had a battle in Brooklyn against a dangerous opponent in Shawn Porter and came out on top in a close 12 round contest.
Wins over Danny Garcia and Josesito Lopez in his last two bouts have given the American a chance against Pacquiao.
How Pacquiao Can Win?
Skill. Experience. Determination.
We all know that Manny Pacquiao has failed to finish his opponents as regularly as he did when he was a brash, young fighter however he has seemingly lost none of his speed.
His skillset holds up despite his age and he continues to be extremely hard to touch.
The most important aspect in my opinion to Manny Pacquiao continuing to be successful is that he is still clearly enjoying himself inside the ring.
As long as that big, goofy smile is plastered on his face, he will continue to not only be fun to watch but be successful.
How Thurman Can Win?
Demeanour. Confidence. Talent.
He always seems to find a way to win. Tight decision wins over Porter and Garcia were followed by a long lay off after elbow surgery.
He’s a very conservative fighter who comes into fights with a precise game plan that is followed through with resulting in an undefeated resume so far.
He’s never been beaten and he has to come into this fight full of confidence. This is the big time under the bright lights and a really good opportunity.
After 22 months out of the ring, Keith Thurman returns with a less than impressive win against Jesesito Lopez to win via a decision and it always seems as though he just finds enough to win.
There is no doubt that Thurman has earned this title shot under the bright lights in Vegas however this is a massive jump to make and there are too many doubts on his body and class.
There will come a day that Manny Pacquiao drops off the pace and age catches up with him but I don’t see that being Sunday.
