1000m specialist, this very speedy, on paced running, 4-year-old mare comes here off what I thought were two terrific trials and the form out of those trials has been excellent.
On the 7th March, she won her 807m Warwick Farm barrier trial in good time without being knocked about at all. That trial form has been well and truly franked with the 3rd horse in the heat, Easy Eddie, who was 2.1L off Goldfinch, returning to the racetrack in scintillating form subsequent to the Goldfinch trial. The Joe Pride gelding won the Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes when resuming and then progressed on and ran a terrific 3rd in last Saturday’s Group 1 Galaxy, just 1.4L off winner Nature Strip. These results auger very well for Goldfinch.
The mare goes like a bomb first-up having won resuming twice with another placing from 4 career fresh runs. She excels at the 1000m, having won 4 from 11 with 2 placing’s of the flying 5 furlong’s and is 1/1 at the Muswellbrook 1000m trip, so she is a course and distance winner also.
She’s drawn a sticky gate (will start from 12/14 after scratching’s) but I’m hopeful regular jockey Deanne Panya, who is back on again here, car fire her out of the gates as is the mare’s customary pattern and that’ll allow her to speed across the field and get to the fence or at worst be parked outside the lead, 1 off.
She needs it dry, but come race time with fine weather predicted, it’s very likely the track will be upgraded from its current rating of a Slow 5 and be well into the good range by the jump.
At $18.57 and $4.60 (using Boosted Odds Available from Neds) she looks a great value bet for mine, definitely worth a nice each way play.
