THIS LIGHTLY RACED 5 YEAR OLD CHESTNUT GELDING IS BUILDING AN IMPRESSIVE RECORD WITH 2 WINS AND A SECOND FROM JUST THE 4 CAREER OUTINGS.

HE HAD A GRAND TOTAL OF 9 TRIALS OVER A TIME SPAN OF 2 YEARS, SO HE DEFINITELY HAD HIS FAIR SHARE OF PROBLEMS & SETBACKS. BUT THE FACT SUCH A HIGHLY REGARDED TRAINER AS CAULFIELD’S ROBERT SMERDON STUCK BY HIM FOR SO LONG THROUGHOUT ALL THE DRAMA IS A CLEAR SIGN OF THE OPINION HE HAS OF THE HORSE. IF HE DIDN’T POESES ABOVE AVERAGE ABILITY THERE’S NO WAY SMERDON WOULD HAVE PERSISTED SO LONG WITH HIM!

ON DEBUT OVER 1200M @ PAKENHAM HE SIMPLY FOUND THEM TOO SHARP BUT IN SAYING THAT HE WORKED HOME VERY NICELY FOR A HORSE THAT CLEARLY NEEDED FURTHER.

2ND UP HE JUMPED FROM 1200M RIGHT UP TO 1740M @ SALE. HE CAMPED IN BEHIND THE SPEED AND PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE WON THE RACE BAR BEING HELD UP FOR A GOOD PORTION OF THE STRAIGHT. HE EVENTUALLY DID GET OUT BUT THE WINNER WHO WAS THE LEADER / DICTATOR OF THE RACE WAS OFF AND GONE. IT WAS STILL A VERY NICE EFFORT.

HE THEN CAME TO TOWN FOR A MIDWEEK METROPOLITAN 1800M MAIDEN, AND AFTER GETTING A GUN RUN WORE DOWN THE HAYES TRAINED, SO BELLE, WHO LED AND GOT A PICNIC IN FRONT. IT WAS A GREAT EFFORT TO GET PAST THE HORSE WHO HAD, HAD SUCH AN EASY TIME IN FRONT (4.3L SLOWER THAN BENCHMARK TO 600M). SO BELLE HAS SINCE COME OUT AND WON IN DOMINANT FASHION AT WERIBEE TO FRANK THE FORM.

HE THEN PROGRESSED ONTO BM64 GRADE AFTER BREAKING HIS MAIDEN STATUS, AND DESPITE CARRYING 59.5KG HE WON A VERY HOT FORM RACE OVER THE 1726M COURSE @ GEELONG. HE BEAT HOME DEFENCE WITNESS FROM THE GREG EURELL YARD WHO HAS SINCE COME OUT AND WON AT MOONEE VALLEY, WITH CLINTON MCDONALD’S CHOISIGOLD 3RD. IT’S COME OUT AND RUN TERRIFIC AGAIN IN BM64 GRADE WHERE HE WAS A BOLD 2ND NOT BEATEN FAR.

HE GETS BACK TO THE 1800M, SANDOWN HILLSIDE COURSE, THE TRACK AND DISTANCE WERE HE WAS SO IMPRESSIVE BREAKING HIS MAIDEN 2 STARTS BACK, NOW LOOKING FOR A HAT-TRICK OF WINS. HE’S DRAWN WIDE BUT HE’S GOT GOOD TACTICAL GATE SPEED AND SO WILL ABLE TO CROSS DOWN AND LAND IN THE FIRST 4 OR 5, ONE OFF THE RAIL IN A NICE SPOT.

THE $9 ON OFFER IS A GREAT EACH WAY PRICE AND I’M SUGGESTING A DECENT BET AT THAT PRICE. $14 WAS OFFERED BUT THAT’S LONG GONE NOW. I SUGGEST BACKING IT ASAP AS I THINK IT COULD SHORTEN INTO START AS LOW AS $5 OR $6.

THERE’S NOT MUCH DEPTH TO THIS RACE AND ERECTOR IS A HORSE ON A STEEP UPWARD SPIRAL WHO CAN EASILY TAKE THIS NEXT STEP THAT’S BEING ASKED OF HIM AND MAKE IT 3 N A ROW.
