Supido won his fifth straight race when taking out the Phillip Schuler Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on Monday.

Kent would like to see Supido take on higher grade in the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap at Morphetville on May 21 but concedes the sprinter may need to win another race to lift his rating enough to earn a place in the field.

Kent had intended to run Supido in last Saturday’s 2016 Bel Esprit Stakes but was balloted out of the race and potentially faces a similar dilemma in the 2016 Goodwood Handicap.

Kent will consider races such as the Group 2 Euclase Stakes in Adelaide on May 7 or a 1000 metre handicap at Flemington on the same day as possible lead-up races to the 2016 Goodwood Handicap.

HERE’S A NOTE FROM MICK KENT ABOUT THE HORSE TO OWNER’S;

G’Day Owners,

Congrats to all. Great to see SUPIDO win again with such authority today. Michael reports that his immediate post race recovery was sound and he doesn’t look to have taken any harm from it. In fact, Michael thinks he will take improvement from it – about 85 – 90 per cent today.

Thanks to all for your patience with this horse. His fragile immune system has him always at risk of picking up a touch of pharyngitis.  Hence the breaks between runs and the intense management demanded of Mick in getting him right.
He’s taken the approach all along that he is simply too good to run when he’s not right. The plan now is certainly the Goodwood. We’ll see how the handicapper has rated him, tomorrow, after today’s win and do some homework as to whether he’s likely to get in. If not, we will have to look at running him again.
That could be in Adelaide (McKay Stakes) or in a 1000m race at Flemington two weeks before the Goodwood. That may be the preferred option as two trips away in a fortnight may not be ideal given his fragility. Congrats again.
Regards,

Michael Kent
