Japanese raider Fame Game is the new top pick in the 2015 Melbourne Cup market (Betfair) after a terrific Cup trial in today’s Caulfield Cup won by dual Derby-winning New Zealander Mongolian Khan.
Fame Game settled well back in the field from his inside post and had drifted back to the tail by the 600m, trapped behind a wall of horses on the fence. Zac Purton worked the Japanese galloper into the clear after straightening and once he got daylight the horse charged home impressively. Form suggested that Fame Game was always going to be better over 3200m and that bodes well for the great race. He’s firmed into $5.50 and is now the favourite for the 2015 Melbourne Cup.
Caulfield Cup winner Mongolian Khan is $10.50 to become the 12th horse to complete the Cups double in 2015.
Caulfield Cup runner-up, Trip to Paris, who winner of the prestigious Ascot Gold Cup earlier this year over 4000m was the run of the race for mine, clearly wanting more ground. He’s 2nd favourite for the Melbourne Cup at $8.20 Ed Dunlop will also have cult hero Red Cadeaux in the Melbourne Cup, with the three time cup runner up currently a $44 chance.
