Race 7 – Group 2, Hill Stakes

Won the 2013 Gr2 Gloaming Stakes leading up to the Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes, which he won effortlessly beating home star galloper Criterion who would go on to not on win the Derby a couple of week’s later but also subsequently the rich $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes in 2014.

Complacent was injured after running a terrific 2nd to Polanksi in the VRC Derby at Flemington in 2013 and spent 658 days off recouping, just under 2 years.

He needed the first run back off the long break for fitness and too boost his confidence, which he got and although beaten 12L the run, in hindsight at least anyway, wasn’t really that bad. After jumping awkwardly, he also copped a nasty check near the turn.

2nd up in the Chelmsford, he was back to his brilliant best, leading and not giving an all-star gr1 quality field a look in, to win easily.

I expect him to go right on with it now and really stamp himself as a genuine Gr1 open class horse and maybe be a lightweight chance in the Caulfield Cup. He’s right up to that standard. He holds nominations for the Cox Plate, Caulfield Cup & Melbourne Cup…So Godolphin clearly have a high opinion of the 5 year old stayer.

Looks a good thing to win this race.
