Vancouver has been scratched from the entire Spring carnival with Gai Waterhouse and connections not wanting to risk the valuable 3 year old colts price with a poor campaign.
Vancouver was trialling OK before a return 4th in the San Domenico Stakes behind Japonisme, the run was ok considering the 1000m was nowhere ideal, but he only plugged, there was no Sprint shown.
After a poor barrier trial it was announced he wouldn’t be lining up in the Golden Rose, a race he’d been a long term favourite for – but he’d now be aimed at the 1600m Caulfield Guineas.
But it’s now been announced the entire Spring Carnival has been aborted for the horse & he may have even raced for the last time.
After being undefeated, winning 4 from 4 as a 2yo, the colt looked a super star and Gai rated him so highly she gave up the chance of a likely another 2 Gr1 wins & a 2yo Triple Crown, instead to be aimed at Cox Plate as a 3yo.
That leaves Gai’s best 3yo clearly her filly Speak Fondly. The stable has always rated Speak Fondly highly and expect her to become a Gr1 winner this Spring, most likely the Flight Stakes.
