Paul Joice –

Shiraz clocked the fastest final 600-metres at Randwick on Saturday but the fastest final 200-metres went to a Group I winner which resumed in the Group II Tramway Stakes (1400m).

Lucia Valentina caught the eye flashing through the ruck to finish sixth in the Group II Tramway and the sectional times confirm what a terrific return it was.

The dual Group I winner from the Kris Lees stable clocked 11.52 seconds for the final 200-metres.

That split was marginally quicker than the final 200-metres of Tony McEvoy’s in-form six-year-old Shiraz, clocking 11.54 seconds.

An interesting final sectional came in the Group II Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) with Chris Waller’s evergreen 10-year-old I’m Imposing finishing ninth behind Complacent but clocking the fastest splits, with a final 600-metres of 35.22 seconds and a final 200-metres of 11.78 seconds.

Below is a table summarising the fastest final 600-metres and 200-metre splits at Randwick on Saturday.
