It will come as no surprise that Hawkes Racing’s Chautauqua clocked the fastest final 600-metres at Moonee Valley on Saturday but it would take more than a few guesses to pick which horse clocked the fastest final 200-metres of the day.

Group I TJ Smith winner Chautauqua zoomed past his rivals to win the Group II McEwen Stakes (1000m) on Saturday and was the only runner to break 34 seconds for the final 600-metres when stopping the clock at 33.92.

But surprisingly it was unheralded five-year-old Tansy from the Byron Cozamanis yard which was responsible for the fastest final 200-metres of the day, clocking 11.58 seconds.

That split was 0.13 seconds faster than the final 200-metres of Chautauqua.

Below is a table summarising the fastest final 600-metres and 200-metre splits at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
