STAR four year-olds Alpine Eagle and Hi World could miss Saturday’s Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington.

They are well down in the order of ballot in the race which can field 16 runners.

Hi World is 18 in the ballot, Alphine Eagle 19, while Let’s Make Adeal is 20.

A total of 22 entries were received yesterday for the $400,000 weight for age race.

John Sadler is hoping to a start with his Melbourne Cup hope Mutual Regard which is 17 in the ballot., but could settled for a less races.

And there is plenty of Mutual Regard for Sadler and former Irish jockey John Murtagh.

Murtagh, who rode Group 1 winners all over Europe, arrived in town last spring as a trainer with two Melbourne Cup hopes _ Mutual Regard and Royal Diamond.

Both imports are owned by Andrew Tinkler and were left in Australia after the Cup with Sadler.

While $9 chance Mutual Regard finished 14th, $101 chance Royal Diamond 47th lengths from the winner, Protectionist, and has since been shipped back to England.

Sadler is embarking on another Melbourne Cup run with Mutual Regard which kicks off its campaign on Saturday with a run in either the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) or the open 1700m handicap.

After a couple of setbacks, Sadler is happy with the progress of the horse which with just 18 starts _ sevens win, four seconds and three thirds _ is lightly raced for a seven year-old.

Sadler’s preference is for a run in the Group 1 race, but warns that Mutual Regard won’t be competitive until the he gets to 2500m and beyond.

“He’ll have this run and other one probably over a mile and a quarter (2400 and then he’ll be ready then to be competitive because he won’t get warm until then,” he said.

It was Sadler’s stint in Dubai from 2000 to 2004 as a trainer and Murtagh’s as a jockey that led to the two imports being left at the Caulfield stables at the end of last spring.

“Johnny rode for me in Dubai and we became good friends and we stayed in touch with each other and when Mutual Regard and Royal Diamond came out for the Melbourne Cup last year, I sort of looked after them leading into the race and the owner decided to leave them here,” he said.

“Royal Diamond broke down and went home and has been retired, but Mutual Regard has had an easy time for a while and the owner Andrew Tinkler wants me to get him ready for the Melbourne Cup.

“He has had a few issues but seems pretty good at the moment.”

Sadler said Mutual Regard would need to win a race like the Geelong Cup to help him into the Melbourne Cup which was his last run when he pulled ferociously.

“I have no doubt at all if he hadn’t have pulled, he would have in it up to his ears,” he said.

“Damien Oliver said he had never been on a horse in a distance race that has pulled as hard as what he did.
