Another setback has ruled top class mare First Seal out of today’s Tramway Stakes at Randwick and leaving her spring program up in the air.

Trainer John Thompson reported that First Seal’s immediate future will depend on the results of MRI scans to be taken of the mare’s feet on Monday.

First Seal suffered from a hoof abscess two weeks ago that cost her a start in the Warwick Stakes. Thompson found another problem with the same foot had returned on Saturday morning.

“She was scratchy in her action and we will have scans taken on Monday that we hope can reveal the cause of the problem and go from there,” Thompson said.

“We just hope we can get on top of it quickly and get going again.”

“It’s very frustrating as she has been going good for the last 10 days since the abscess burst.”
