Classy mare Gregers is set to be scratched from Saturday’s $120,000 Listed The Cup Club Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
The likely withdrawal of the David Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained five-year-old would pave the way for the current first emergency Fast Cash to gain a start in the race.
Hayes said on Thursday there was no issue with the daughter of Commands, who drew wide and finished unplaced first up in the Carlyon Stakes, other than drawing barrier 14.
“She’s drawn wide again so we’ve decided not to run her and we’ll save her for another day,” Hayes said.
Despite Gregers’ scratching, Lindsay Park will still have two chances in the race in Oakleigh Plate (1100m) third placegetter Fast ‘N’ Rocking and four-year-old Galaxy Pegasus, who is resuming after undergoing throat surgery.
Happy with the barrier draw for Galaxy Pegasus, who will jump from the inside for jockey Damian Lane, Hayes was less than impressed with Fast ‘N’ Rocking drawing the outside gate for Michael Walker.
“It’s a horror barrier and he’s going to be giving them a big start and will be relying on a solid tempo,” he said.
“Galaxy Pegasus’s recent trial was very good, he’s drawn well and will be right on the pace and looks a good each-way chance.
“He’s a horse to follow, he’s had a wind operation and I think he might be able to go up another level.”
