Racing Victoria has announced significant prizemoney increases for three of the spring carnival’s biggest country races.
The joint initiative between RV, Cranbourne Turf Club, Bendigo Jockey Club and Ballarat Turf Club will see prizemoney for the Cranbourne Cup, Bendigo Cup and Ballarat Cup rise to a record $300,000 this year.
The Listed Cranbourne Cup (2025m) will be run on October 11 (up from $200,000); the G3 Bendigo Cup (2400m) on October 28 (up from $250,000) and the G3 Ballarat Cup (2200m) on November 21 (up from $200,000)
The increases have been facilitated by a combination of RV and club funding in an effort to boost the profile of the Cranbourne, Bendigo and Ballarat Cups and incentivise future participation.
The increases bring to four the number of country cups in Victoria offering prizemoney of $300,000 during the spring, joining G3 Geelong Cup (2400m) on October 21.
“To have prizemoney lifted to $300,000 for each of the Cranbourne, Bendigo and Ballarat Cups is a fantastic achievement for the respective clubs and is testament to the importance of these races to Victoria’s Spring Racing Carnival,” said Racing Victoria’s Paul Bloodworth.
“The increased prizemoney further strengthens and reinforces Victoria’s position as the premier state for staying races. It will assist in further growing these races and ensuring that they are supported by Australia’s premier trainers and jockeys, whilst remaining front of mind for international visitors also.”
