Australian galloper Criterion has run a very credible 5th in the Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Chad Schoefield jumped the Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner out swiftly and went forward, soon settling down just in behind the lead in 2nd spot.

He travelled well throughout and was within striking distance down past the 300m mark but he was out sprinted by Free Eagle, The Grey Gadsby and Western Hymn.

However he never shirked the task and was coming again on the line  finishing officially fifth.

Trainer David Hayes said the horse ran very well but wasn’t totally suited by the very firm track, but all in all he was thrilled with the effort.

Hayes said he’d see how the horse comes through the run before deciding what his short term plans were.

The Dermot Weld trained Free Eagle won the race by a nose beating The Grey Gadsby, with Western Hymn back in 3rd.
