French champion Solow has claimed the opening race of Royal Ascot carnival 2015, the Gr1 Queen Anne Stakes.

Solow sat on a moderate speed from the outset as his main rival Able Friend travelled with cover back in the field. When the sprint went on Solow responded quickly and dashed away. It looked as though Night of Thunder may challenge for a stride or two but he dropped right out.

Able Friend never made up any ground at all and was beaten a long way, leaving the opener as a huge anti-climax after such a great ‘match race’ was expected. He simply didn’t handle the travel and or undulating Ascot straight but he’ll bounce back, back in Hong Kong!
