The Cleaner led throughout to claim his second straight edition of the Group II Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.
The Cleaner ($5.50) defeated Bagman ($21) by 1 ¾ lengths while Dibayani ($9) was third.
This is what the jockeys thought of the performance of their ride in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes .
Race | Horse | Jockey | Comment |
1st | The Cleaner | Noel Callow | He was pretty brave. I was waiting for the Godolphin horse and he couldn’t pick me up but I suppose he’s had a silver spoon his whole life and my bloke has had to work for it. Good on The Cleaner. |
2nd | Bagman | Michael Walker | Really good run. It would have been a different story if I had a horse to take me into the race but I didn’t. With the weight, I bet his sectionals were brilliant. |
3rd | Dibayani | Damian Lane | Ran super but he just got on that wrong lead around the corner and I think a bigger track is going to suit him a lot better. |
4th | Kenjorwood | Luke Currie | He ran well. It was hard at level weights but he did a good job. |
5th | Contributer | Dwayne Dunn | The winner, the first half sectionals were very slow for what he does. I thought when he got out into the clear that he was just going to charge out and hammer the line and I thought if I don’t win I’d run second. It was just disappointing. These Europeans, they don’t handle this close kind of racing. It was tricky where I was. He would have been better off three-wide than down on the rail. |
6th | Mourinho | Vlad Duric | He showed a turn of foot the other day but today he just raced very dour. He’s probably a better horse when he can build momentum so the box seat probably wasn’t ideal for him. The Cleaner quickened and he didn’t quicken so it felt like a flat run to me. |
7th | No Tricks | Stephen Baster | She ran nice. Just looking for further. |
8th | Banca Mo | Dean Holland | He ran really well. He’s nice and honest and toughed it out to the line. |
9th | Foreteller | Craig Newitt | He’s probably a bit below where he’s been the last couple of years fitness-wise. When you’re against that horse (The Cleaner), he soon finds that out. He came off the bit a long way out but he was good through the line. |
10th | Gallante | Steven Arnold | He got into the race well but then he (The Cleaner) dragged us out from a long way out and he was tired in the last furlong. |
11th | Ethiopia | Patrick Moloney | That’s probably the end of him. Very disappointing. |
